In today’s world, there are many routes one can take toward becoming a parent. Some people choose not to have children of their own, at least biologically speaking, or are unable to, and so, instead, they make the decision to adopt. A lot of the people who make the decision to adopt are just regular, everyday people. However, adopting is also very common among celebrities, and some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are proud adoptive parents.
Sandra Bullock is often referred to as “America’s Sweetheart,” and it’s easy to see why. This adoptive mother has a true heart of gold. Back in 2010, she adopted her son Louis. And, not long ago, she also chose to adopt another child. This time, she selected a three year old little girl named Laila. Bullock has been very vocal about her adoptions and has regularly told reporters that she feels like adopting was the perfect choice for her and exactly what she was meant to do.
You probably know Kristin Davis as the sweet, innocent Charlotte on HBO’s Sex and the City. On that show, Davis plays a woman desperate to have a child, and Davis, in real life, isn’t all that different. She, too, wanted a little one to call her own, and so, back in 2011, she adopted a little girl whom she named Gemma Rose. Davis told reporters that she’d wanted to adopt for a very long time, and she is regularly seen strolling around town with her little one.
The demure and talented Cate Blanchett, best known for her role in The Lord of the Rings, became an adoptive mother in March of 2015. She adopted a little girl named Edith Vivian Patricia. The happy addition to her family marked her first little girl since Blanchett was already mom to three sons prior to finalizing her adoption.
Adoption isn’t always the result of not being able to have children of one’s own. Just ask Ewan McGregor. The actor was already a dad to two biological daughters when he chose to adopt more. His first adoption was finalized in 2008 when McGregor welcomed his daughter, Jamiyan, from Mongolia. Three years later, he added little Annouk to his family. There’s no word on whether he or partner, Eve Mavrakis, have plans to add more bundles of joy to their brood in the future.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who married back in 1990, were definitely a “power couple” in their heyday. And, while their marriage ultimately didn’t stand the test of time, they do have two adopted children to show for their union. Their little ones include Isabella June, whom they adopted in 1992, and Connor Anthony, adopted in 1995.
As you can see, there are all kinds of ways to become a family, and adoption is one of those ways- a way that has been embraced by celebrities and regular people alike.
